Seasonal Storage and Savings!

Seasonal items need a separate home within your home. If you live in a climate with four distinct seasons, or enjoy decorating for holidays, storing this stuff correctly is important.

Try using one bin per holiday; label the end of the bin with a sticky label and marker.  I would also keep one bin that is always “on top” of the others for your bargains.  Save money on Christmas cards you purchase in January, holiday paper goods after the holiday, wrapping items, small gifts that you purchased on clearance that can be used as hostess gifts, unexpected birthday or anniversary gifts.

This can save you a lot of time and money…but only if your storage bin is visible, accessible, and the first place you look before you shop.  Otherwise, this system will not be any benefit to you.

Purchase a greeting card organizer and buy cards in bulk assortments from online suppliers, or shop the clearance sections of the big retailers for boxed thank you cards and invitations.  I pair this tool with a perpetual calendar….this is a calendar with only the month and date, no year or days of the week. This allows you to create a perpetual birthday and anniversary reminder without recopying every year.

I use a pencil to allow for changes, and enter the year whenever I can so I always know how old the birthday child is or what special anniversary might be coming up.

Some people will spend time at the beginning of each month signing and addressing their cards for the month, putting the date to mail in the corner where they will be placing the stamp on the mailing date.

Saving time and money can go hand in hand… if you’re organized!
