The goal of organization is NOT perfection.
I don’t know about you, but I think perfection is over rated. You obviously want more perfection in your surgeon or anesthesiologist than you should expect in a spouse, but perfection is not an enviable or attainable state for people with families and real lives. It can be devastating to our mental state, causing depression, negativity and even immobilizing us…why attempt ANYTHING when I cannot have the PERFECT thing? When we reach for this elusive ideal very little gets done and we’re never happy or satisfied… all because we chose the wrong goal.
When tackling an organization project instead of thinking “perfection” substitute ideas like “access”,” systems”, and “improved workability.” Unlike perfection, these are achievable, sustainable goals.
I like this for an organizational “wish” for my clients: May your home be clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy!
