Sentiment and Clutter

Many people who employ professional organizers do so because the “things” in their life that have an emotional component are overwhelming them. Maybe they “inherited” (intentionally or not) that dining room furniture or dishes, and they feel it is disrespectful to sell or donate it, even though it does not fit their home or even their lifestyle. If this might be you, consider saving one chair from the set, or one cup and saucer to honor the gift and the person’s memory. Take the burden that so much of someone else’s “stuff” can bring and enjoy the liberation that having less stuff to move, to clean and to look at will bring. Your memories, photos and token items should provoke smiles and memories, not a cluttered living space.
