What it costs

Traditionally this is the time of year when people often think “spring cleaning” In fact, during my lifetime Easter Break was often called “Spring cleaning week.”

Many years later, a few new thoughts. Everything we save has a cost. It costs us space and a mental connection to it…positive or negative. We look at it and feel bad that we spent too much, don’t properly fit the item or use it.  We  often equate having lots of stuff with being happy, successful or maybe just secure. Something different happens when we declutter and donate or discard things. The things we decide to save seem more attractive, more special and we feel lighter and freer.

So instead of feeling deprived, we feel empowered by surrounding ourselves with the “right stuff” instead of more stuff than we want or need.
